Bosnia-Herzegovina is bordered by Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and is also bordered partly by the Adriatic Sea. (1) The climate includes hot summers and cold winters, therefore, I packed heavy jackets, mitts, a scarf, and a beanie to help me keep warm. (20) Bosnia is mostly mountainous as the country encompasses the Dinaric Alps. (5) Bosnia's land is also 50% forests. (6) Leading to their problem of deforestation and coal mining, which results in acid rain and water shortages. (7) The people of Bosnia-Herzegovina mostly speak Bosnian which is one of the three official languages. (3) Transportation is a very big means of life in Bosnia; trains are the most prominent way to travel long distances. (4) The food in Bosnia-Herzegovina is amazing! Beef is an essential in Bosnian meals served with many assorted vegetables, and my favorite dish is the Bosnian Burek. (13) While in Sarajevo, I visited the Bascarsija, which is a popular cultural tourist attraction for its rich and historical buildings. (16) Soon after my stay in Sarajevo, I traveled to Monstar (2) to visit the famous Old Bridge, which is Bosnia's most recognizable landmark that dates back to medieval times. (15) The Mosque in Prijedor is a recently rebuilt mosque opened by the leaders of the four main religions: Islam, Orthodox, Catholicism, and Judaism. (10) Towards the end of my thrilling trip, I visited Banja Luka, (2) the second most populous city, where I met a nice lady who helped me enrich my Bosnian experience by teaching me more about Bosnia-Herzegovina's customs and its history. Notable customs include Bosnian people enjoy visiting homes and bringing small presents to the hosts, which is a popular pastime activity. (14) Bosnia-Herzegovina is very historically rich. Due to WWII, Bosnia was ceded by Croatia, causing many to abandon beloved homes in order to prevent from being enslaved. (9) Not to mention the monumental national holiday when Bosnia-Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia on March 1, 1992. (12) I had fun on my trip to Bosnia-Herzegovina and hope I was able to share my experience with you guys through this letter! Soon I will be back and will tell you many more great stories. As the Bosnian people say it, "Zbogom!"
